On February 6, 2025, our school organized a trip to the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), the only stock exchange in Sri Lanka. The CSE’s main office is located in Colombo, specifically at the World Trade Center (WTC).
We gathered at our school's international branch at 7:45 AM and left for the WTC at 8:15 AM. The journey was fun, my friend Dulen almost fell off the bus, and when he attempted to sing a song, his voice cracked, making everyone laugh.
After a long journey, we finally arrived at the WTC around 9:10 AM. We were greeted by an employee there, who summarized what we would be learning. Another speaker gave a PowerPoint presentation about the CSE, explaining how it compares to other stock exchanges around the world, the role of stockbrokers, and the importance of saving and investing.
In a surprise addition to our trip, we also visited the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Sri Lanka, where our teacher in charge introduced us to the organization. We received three educational leaflets about the SEC and how to be a good investor. The Deputy Director General of the SEC taught us about the commission and the laws that established it. We wrapped up our visit with a Q&A session with the director.
After that, we left and arrived back at school around 12 PM.
